Trauma symptoms do not have to take away your ability to live your life.
Trauma is treatable.
You can feel better.
You can find your way back to ease, function, and joy.
I offer somatic psychotherapy sessions to individuals who are ready to resolve past traumas at an emotional and physical level. These sessions are available in 50-minute, 80-minute, and 110-minute sessions.
Science is now telling us that the pathway back from trauma is to address how the nervous system was impacted and is “stuck.” Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a nervous-system based approach for navigating, integrating, and healing from past trauma.
What does somatic psychotherapy mean? It means that, when appropriate and when you as the client are ready and interested, I am delighted to work on the level of the nervous system. (This is in addition to working within a traditional modality of exploring thoughts and feelings.)
Working with the nervous system means that we pay attention to sensations in the body that get linked to feelings and experiences. By paying attention to those sensations, it is possible to decrease anxiety and symptoms of trauma.
Somatic psychotherapy as a modality was created to address the nervous system’s association with trauma. We work together in a safe, gentle environment talking through your thoughts and feelings, pausing to allow the nervous system to complete unprocessed impulses. We allow your nervous system to integrate. The result is that you feel and function better!
I’ve been trained by Kathy Kain, who is an expert in the somatic psychotherapy field doing “Trauma Touch” work. With this expertise and training, one additional option in our work together will be to incorporate touch to help resolve trauma that is “stuck” in the nervous system.
