Parents of infants and young children…this is hard and you can do it.
You do not have to do this alone.
Perinatal mood disorders are both preventable and treatable. You can feel better. You can move from survive to thrive.
You can get what you need.
I offer 50-minute or 80-minute psychotherapy sessions for women, mothers, partners, and families.
Some of the challenges we can work through together include…
“Trying to conceive” support — preconception, infertility challenges, secondary infertility
Pregnancy support
Working through traumatic birthing experiences
Postpartum support
Postpartum mood disorders (PMAD)
Early parenting support
Envisioning the “feminist family”: empowering women to create the life and the family they want and to get the support they need and deserve to not just survive parenting but to find ease, joy and spaciousness and a sense of self
Dyadic infant-parent psychotherapy to help support early attachment disruptions
“Baby makes three” — supporting the transition to parenthood
Building your family — supporting the transition from one child to two or more
I am passionate about supporting women through the perinatal period (conception through early parenting) and helping to resolve trauma caused by a challenging birth.
Perinatal Mental Health Support
I believe that every mother has the right and the capacity to feel joyful on whatever her parenting path is.
As many as 1 in 5 women will experience significant symptoms of depression or anxiety in the postpartum period.
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders can be devastating. They are also treatable and manageable with the right support.
Whether a new parent or a seasoned one, bringing an infant into this world can be nothing shy of shocking. Shocking! As parents, we move on a moment to moment basis from fun and ease to desperation and self-doubt.
My goal is guide you in the direction of health, balance and joy as you re-orient your life and your family’s life to incorporate a new baby into the fray. And I will encourage you to honor the dialectic that exists — there will always be challenges as a parent, yet we can hold both pieces and learn to continually orient ourselves toward the joy.
Traumatic Birth
Research tells us that traumatic childbirth occurs in as many as 25-34% of all births, and approximately one-third of those women may develop Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). And even if a birthing mother does not “meet criteria” for PTSD, birthing trauma is very much “in the eye of the beholder.”
If birth was difficult, it birth was frightening, if a mother’s voice and needs were unheard or unmet, if the birthing experience deviated far from what the birthing mother wanted to expected, it can land in the mother’s heart, mind, and body as traumatic.
Mothers who experience a challenging birth may feel deep sadness, a sense of inadequacy, feelings of rage, an extreme sense of helplessness, isolation, fear, and anxiety.
I have expertise and specific training to help you navigate birthing trauma so that you can resolve the pain, anxiety, and emotional challenges that stem from the experience.
Together, we will help your heart, mind and body recover from a traumatic birth. You can feel better. You can stay connected to your baby and partner. You can take back your body.
Whether you’ve just experienced a traumatic birth, it occurred years ago, or you’re preparing for another birth and need resolution, we can work together to help you feel grounded and at peace once again.
